XPeng activates dedicated IRON humanoid production line

XPeng has officially switched on a dedicated production line for its IRON humanoid in Guangzhou, marking a significant shift from viral demonstrations to industrial-scale manufacturing. The company reports that over 80% of the assembly processes on this line are automated. The IRON unit features 76 degrees of freedom, including 21 in each hand, and is powered by three of XPeng's proprietary Turing AI chips, delivering up to 2,250 TOPS. This move follows a successful $900M funding round that valued the robotics arm at over $6.3B. XPeng is leveraging its existing automotive supply chain, manufacturing expertise, and in-house chip technology to accelerate production. The company targets mass production by the end of 2026, with initial deployments planned for its own stores and campuses before commercial deliveries commence in 2027.

Figure secures $3.5B compute deal with Nscale

Figure has announced a strategic partnership with UK-based neocloud provider Nscale to significantly scale the training of its Helix humanoid AI brain. The deal involves an initial compute commitment of $3.5B, with an intent to scale beyond $6B, and includes Nscale taking an equity stake in Figure. The partnership will provide Figure with access to up to 100,000 Nvidia Vera Rubin GPUs, with the first chips expected to go live in Texas in the second half of 2027. This agreement addresses the critical compute and data gaps Figure has faced in its mission to develop humanoids capable of working in factories and homes. For Nscale, this represents a pivot toward supporting humanoid AI, moving beyond its previous focus on LLM efforts with major tech companies. The success of this initiative remains contingent on whether physical intelligence can scale effectively, a hypothesis that Figure is now heavily capitalized to test.

Bedrock Robotics deploys autonomous excavators

Bedrock Robotics has successfully deployed its first fully autonomous excavators on live construction sites in Texas and Nevada. The company reports that these operator-free machines are achieving near human-level productivity, handling tasks such as rough earthmoving for a water treatment plant and a large-scale sitework project. The system is designed to automatically halt operations if a person enters the work zone, resuming only when the area is clear. Both robots operate on a shared home map, coordinating their cleaning missions in real time.
