Unitree's Blockbuster IPO

The stock surged 460% on its debut, significantly increasing the net worth of founder Wang Xingxing. This marks a major milestone as the first pure-play humanoid maker to list in mainland China. Despite the market enthusiasm, Wang noted that the "ChatGPT moment" for humanoids is likely two to ten years away, emphasizing that current revenue is still heavily driven by research and academic institutions.

New Humanoid Developments

The Beijing World Robot Conference showcased a wave of new humanoid activity. Galbot unveiled its first bipedal humanoid, the ET-1, while RobotEra is reportedly considering a Hong Kong IPO that could raise up to $1B. Additionally, Chery's robotics arm, AiMOGA, is preparing for its own IPO, targeting 10,000 robot deliveries next year with a focus on policing and traffic management applications.

Tesla Prepares Cybercab Launch

Tesla is moving forward with its autonomous vehicle strategy, preparing to deploy its steering-wheel-free Cybercab on public roads in Austin. The rollout will begin with employee-only rides before expanding to the general public shortly after. Unlike the Model Ys currently used for robotaxi services, the Cybercab is a purpose-built autonomous vehicle. Waymo's California Expansion

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has approved a significant expansion for Waymo, allowing the company to operate paid driverless services across 18 counties. This permit covers operations in Sacramento and San Diego, as well as expanded footprints in Los Angeles and the Bay Area. The approval also authorizes the use of Waymo's next-gen Ojai vehicle for paid service, marking a shift toward a regional network model.

Amazon Prime Air Expansion

Amazon is scaling its drone delivery network, Prime Air, with plans to reach nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns by the end of the year. The expansion will cover regions in Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, Idaho, and New York. Amazon reports that over 60% of its most frequently purchased items are eligible for drone delivery, with the fastest orders arriving in approximately 30 minutes.

Electric Eel-Inspired Sensors

Researchers at Xidian University have developed a new sensor inspired by the electric eel, capable of identifying materials without physical contact. The sensor uses a precharged polymer film to create a weak electric field, which is distorted by nearby objects. This allows robots to distinguish between metals, plastics, and glass, providing a potential solution for detecting fragile objects or navigating in environments where vision systems may struggle.
