Black Forest Labs releases FLUX 3 with robot control

Black Forest Labs has launched FLUX 3, a new 'visual intelligence' model capable of generating high-quality video, images, and audio. Beyond its generative capabilities, the company introduced a specialized variant, FLUX-mimic, developed in partnership with Zurich-based mimic robotics. This model is designed to learn factory tasks from just 30 minutes of demonstration data, a significant reduction from the typical 30+ hours required for traditional training. The system is already being tested on Audi production lines, marking a notable expansion of visual AI models into physical robotics. FLUX 3 itself supports multilingual dialogue, typography, and character adherence, with early testing showing competitive performance against rivals like Runway and Kling. The release includes open-weight versions optimized for local hardware, signaling a push to make advanced visual intelligence more accessible for both creative and industrial applications.

OpenAI and Anthropic launch competing voice upgrades

OpenAI and Anthropic have simultaneously released significant updates to their voice AI capabilities. OpenAI has expanded its GPT-Live voice mode to the desktop app on macOS and Windows, as well as to its Codex and ChatGPT Work platforms. Reports suggest this technology may also underpin upcoming hardware, such as a screenless speaker from OpenAI. Anthropic has updated Claude’s voice mode to run on its more powerful Opus and Sonnet models, moving away from the smaller Haiku model. The update also enables Claude to connect with productivity tools like Gmail and Slack. While both labs are pushing forward, Anthropic’s latest update focuses on model intelligence and app integration, whereas OpenAI is prioritizing natural, real-time conversational flow and cross-platform accessibility.

ChatGPT introduces health record integration

OpenAI has launched a new feature for ChatGPT that allows users to connect their Apple Health data and medical records directly to the platform. Available to U.S. users aged 18 and older across all plans, the system is designed to help users organize and interpret health information, such as lab results, medications, and activity patterns. OpenAI emphasizes that this data will not be used to train its foundation models or for targeted advertising. The feature is intended to assist with appointment preparation and summarizing health history rather than replacing professional medical advice. By acting as an interface between the user and various patient portals, ChatGPT aims to reduce the friction of managing fragmented health data, though it underscores the need for users to verify information, as synced records may occasionally be incomplete.

Etched secures $300M; Patreon announces 20% layoffs

AI chip startup Etched has raised $300M in new funding, bringing its total valuation to $10.3B just weeks after exiting stealth. The company has now secured over $1B in total funding, highlighting the intense investor interest in specialized AI hardware. Meanwhile, the broader tech sector continues to see shifts, with Patreon announcing a 20% reduction in its workforce. CEO Jack Conte cited the fundamental changes AI has brought to how technology companies operate and organize as a primary driver for the restructuring. In other industry news, Cognition has acquired The Interaction Company, integrating its text-message-based AI agent, Poke, into its own Devin agent platform. Additionally, Canadian mathematician and 2026 Fields Medal recipient Jacob Tsimerman is joining OpenAI to focus on AI safety, further illustrating the ongoing talent migration from academia to frontier AI labs.
