Science & Research
Biohub releases 'world model of protein biology'
Biohub, the nonprofit backed by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, has launched a new suite of Evolutionary Scale Models (ESM) designed to map, predict, and design proteins. The centerpiece, ESMFold2, is trained on 2.8 billion sequences and claims state-of-the-art performance in predicting protein structures and interactions, outperforming AlphaFold in key benchmarks. The system has already demonstrated success in the lab, designing binders against five cancer and immune targets with hit rates between 36% and 88%. The release also includes ESM Atlas, a map of 6.8 billion protein sequences and 1.1 billion predicted structures, providing researchers with a powerful open-source tool for drug discovery.
Epicure: A multilingual ingredient-embedding model
Researchers Josef Chen and Kaikaku have released Epicure, a multilingual ingredient-embedding model trained on 4.1 million recipes across seven languages. The model compresses the concept of human cooking into a 2MB file, covering 1,790 ingredients in 300 dimensions. It allows users to explore ingredient pairings via the Epicure Flavour Explorer and can be integrated as an MCP endpoint, enabling AI agents to suggest meal combinations based on available ingredients in a user's kitchen.
Business & Funding
Cognition raises $1B at $26B valuation
Cognition, the developer behind the AI software engineer Devin, has secured $1 billion in a new funding round, bringing its valuation to $26 billion. The company reports more than 10x growth since January, driven by the adoption of its AI coding agent. This massive capital injection underscores the intense investor interest in AI-driven software development tools.
OpenAI Foundation commits $250M to economic initiatives
The OpenAI Foundation, the nonprofit arm that holds a 26% stake in OpenAI's for-profit business, has committed an initial $250 million to fund grants and partnerships aimed at addressing AI-driven economic disruption. The initiative will focus on understanding the economic impact of AI, supporting workers facing near-term job displacement, and exploring long-term economic security measures, such as tax shifts from labor to capital and sovereign wealth funds.
Amazon signs $6B deal with Snowflake for agent-computing chips
Amazon has struck a five-year, $6 billion deal with Snowflake to supply AWS Graviton CPU chips. The agreement is designed to power the growing demand for agentic-computing infrastructure, as enterprises increasingly seek specialized hardware to run complex AI agent workloads at scale.
Product & Tech
Robinhood launches 'agentic trading'
Robinhood is rolling out 'agentic trading,' a beta feature that allows users to connect AI agents to a dedicated brokerage account. Users can set specific budgets and parameters, enabling agents to analyze portfolios, suggest strategies, and execute stock trades. Additionally, Gold Card users are receiving virtual cards for agents, allowing them to make purchases within defined limits. The company plans to expand these capabilities to include options, crypto, futures, and prediction markets.
Google debuts Coral Board and AI Threat Defense
Google has launched the Coral Board, a low-power development platform powered by its Coral NPUs, aimed at on-device AI applications such as translation and hardware control. Separately, Google Cloud introduced AI Threat Defense, a security suite that combines Wiz scanning, Gemini vulnerability analysis, and autonomous agents to automate cyber patching and remediation.
